Fixin the saddle

The saddle is probably the most sad thing on my KTM/Penton. The problem is that the bottom of the saddle is all wrecked up with a large piece even missing. On the other hand the foam is in surprisingly good condition. The pictures below shows how I fiber-glassed the bottom and building up the shape again. I used plain polyester resin and biaxial wowen 300g for this work.

Above I used an L shaped batten to form the edge to have something to begin with. The batten is in the picture but I used it for shaping the side to the left from this view.

Side view.

A large portion of the surface was covered with fiber glass before, I don't know why or when but that's the dark area. The yellow one is my fiber glass.

Here I have started to build it up. everything is clamped against a scrap plywood piece.

Almost finished. I will add at least two layers of wowen on the entire surface to strengthen it up and attach fastenings for the seat against the frame as well. There is between 4 and 8 layers of wowen depending on where and It's extremely rigid. I think this will do ? When cutting the excessive fiber glass It's best to do that when It's almost but not entirely cured. Otherwise it will be more phrone to cracking while cutting.

This is a place to get piece in mind. My KTM/Penton to the left, in the middle my scary violent KTM 500MX that you can read more about at The unofficial KTM 495 Site. To the right is my Piaggio 50cc that the police gave to me som tree months after I called them when I found it stolen. It was in terrible condition but I have restored it to good working order as an act of, hmm habit I guess??. In front of the Piaggio is my workbench for the engines. There you can see the Sachs piece of art next to the Maico 440 jevellery.
